Remember: Performances count towards your grades! Make sure you get the time off work, schedule appointments around them and check the calendar frequently for updates!

Parents: Students who do not submit written notice, with your signature, at least 10 days prior to missing a graded performance, WILL NOT be afforded a Make-up writing assignment. If a student is out sick, that is an exception as school policy prohibits participation in extra-curricular events on days absent.

The Music Department makes every effort to schedule concerts and performances well in advance and so that they do not conflict with other school-sponsored events. Please do the same when scheduling trips, Dr.'s appointments, school visits, etc.

The Arts are universal forms of expression necessary to the understanding to nature, human nature, and their relationship to humanity. We believe music is a unique form of communication through which students can express themselves and understand the expression of others. Music education provides opportunities for students to observe, listen, create, and to recreate perceptions, ideas and feelings.
Thompson Public Schools recognize that, in an ever-changing cultural and technological world, students must be enriched through the study of music in order to gain and understanding and appreciation of life. Arts education is a key component for the development of the total child. It is the medium through which students can learn, understand, and value other cultures, as well as participate in and contribute to their own. Finally, it is through Arts education that artistic intelligence is developed so that informed aesthetic choices can be made, and the individual can enjoy a lifetime of varied musical experiences.
